The GLOMP
In the short term I would like to build a community of players and developers, coders and artists, or those who are just interested in playing and talking about existing games, looking into current and new techniques for creating software, in particular multiplayer games (note I did not say MMOPRG) and possibly working on developing the next generation of a game system which is a better fit for current and future technology.
We may very well end up deciding that there are projects out there 'close enough' for our tastes, in which case we will then simply have fun, play games, talk about them, and help match up projects with want to be Devs (Prospects), Which sounds pretty fun to me.
And yes, there are sites which reviews games already. Saying we want this to be a game review site is not complete. Not only do we have larger goals, but I would like the reviews to be not only player opinion, but also from more of a developer point of view. For example, you may review a game, like WoW, and decide it is the cat's meow, best thing out there, but I want to discuss the professions, what makes for a enjoyable exp, what hurts the game, if anything, and other ways we could look at them. Couldn't someone be trained and effective in working iron and steel, and never learn how to work with copper alloys. Would that make them less effective at what they do, and yet give them a leg up in relation to someone who has never worked a forge, if they had to pick up working with copper? Also, is there a better way to organize it in coding? Are the assumptions about the role of professions wrong? Does the dev community agree on the role, or should it be set up as a module, so you can pick and choose its role in development, or even create a new module to get the effect you desire?
You can see there is a lot of stuff to discuss.
If you want to play ingame with us, talk in the forums and just hang out, that's cool. If you have something to say, that is even better, and if you feel like you want to see a piece of this developed, well, welcome aboard!
One note, I want the Wiki to be for notes and facts. discussion tab can be used by the teams that are working those pagesm, but most discussion should be kept to the forums. Think something is crappy? Discuss it there. Opinion = Forums. So "Project A is stupid because the characters can not even jump over houses" should in posted in the forum, in the appropriate spot.. if at all. (and how about you say "I do not like how you can not jump over houses in Project A, I think it hurts the game because....." instead, eh?
